Saturday, May 20th: 10:10 AM

If there are errors in typing today, understand my finger tips are so cold they sting.

We are open today but due to the frost advisory for tonight (3AM to 8AM) we will open at noon on Sunday May 21st.  As we cover all plants to protect them, it takes a while in the morning to get everything back into place.  With the cold predicted for morning, it may be 9:00 before we can actually start to uncover product.

Thank you for your understanding.

Clark

Both locations are open.  We have moved one new load to the Aurora store and another one will come tonight.  Selection will be good at both stores and the sun is coming!!! I promise!!!

Thanks Clark

Monday, May 1st: 8:40 PM

We have worked most of today getting the place back in order at our Shelton location.  The cold weather means moving a lot of product but we are now "put back together".  This week will be a wonderful time to shop both locations as we are moving in lots of new product to both stores.  If the sun shines and the temperature warms we will be busting at the seams with color over the next twenty days.  We plan to run normal hours at both locations.  We will be open at 9:00 am on Tuesday and will close at 7:00 pm.

Thanks
Clark

Monday, May 1st: 12:17 PM

Both locations are open.

Monday, May 1st: 8:20 AM

We will open the Shelton location at 11:00 AM.  The Aurora location is on regular hours.

Sunday, April 30th: 4:41 PM

What a weekend.  As of this post we are hoping the worst of it is over.  We plan to open on Monday at 12:00 noon.  We will access in the morning and may change this opening time so check here for updates on Monday morning.

Thank You
Clark

Sunday, April 30th: 7:09 AM.

The weather will keep us closed for another day at the Shelton location.  I am assuming you will have the same situation at the Aurora store.  We have rolled our fabric roofs as they will not withstand any snow load.  We are hoping the 3-8 inches of wet snow does not happen--but we prepare.  Our larger concern now is that if we see heavy snow there will be wide spread power outages.  We will test fire all generators and make sure we are prepared.  As unusual as this may seem, this has happened twice before in our 26 year history.  We tend not to worry about the cold as we can heat, we tend not to worry about the snow as we can cover, but we do worry about 50 mph winds because there is only so much you can do to hold a plastic cover down in a 50 mph wind.  The wind will also amplify the power outage concern.  The sun will return, the ground will dry, and mama robin will be able to safely leave her nest to find food.  Until then, stay warm everybody!

As I have said in the past, "Don't take your long johns off till Mother's Day".

Saturday, April 29th: 7:46 AM

In an attempt to maintain the quality of our product we will be closed today.  With the 90% chance of rain we have covered all product in an effort to keep it dry and warmer.

I don't think there has ever been a spring where we have closed 2 days in a row.  Tomorrow's forecast for snow will probably mean we will be closed on Sunday also.  We will post updates on Sunday morning.

Thank you for your understanding as we move through this weather system.  Hoping for clear skies and sunshine in the very near future.

Thanks
Clark

Friday, April 28th: 5:53 PM

The forecast for the weekend sounds nasty.  At this time we plan to be closed for the entire weekend.  If the weather or forecast changes we may open.  Check this blog often to find out for sure or always feel free to call me or Kelli.  Our cell numbers are posted at www.bumpuppot.com.www.bumpuppot.com

Friday, April 28th: 2:29 PM

Closed for the day.  It's miserable out here!!!!

Friday, April 28th: 8:54 AM

Rain and cold here today in Shelton.  I've said it many, many times.  You can grow plants wet and you can grow plants cold BUT you cannot grow them wet and cold at the same time.  Many plants do not like wet and cold and for this reason we will not roll covers and open today until later.  We will see what the weather is doing at 1:00 pm and make a new post on this blog to decide if we will open this afternoon.

Thursday April 27th: 8:19 AM

The Shelton location will open at 11:00 AM today due to the cold.

April 27th: 4:00 AM

I'm not sure what the criteria is to differentiate a Freeze Warning from a Frost Advisory but I personally shall call tonight a Freeze Warning.  My alarms went off at about midnight to indicate 35 degrees but I ignored them and went back to sleep.  At 3:00 AM I went to the highway as the Weather Channel was showing a current temperature of 28 degrees.  At our location we have had a hard frost.  With all plants covered and protected, our product at the highway actually looked better at 3:00 AM than it did at 3:00 PM on Wednesday afternoon.  Something to do with 30 mph north winds!  We work way too hard growing plants to allow them to freeze so we do whatever is required to make sure they do not.  The greenhouses at our growing site have had the heat turned off for several weeks due to the warm conditions.  When I went into them at 4:00 am the digital thermometers were showing a 35 degree temperature inside the buildings so the heat went back on.  I was surprised by the low temps inside the buildings.  Just more evidence that you don't take your long johns off till Mother's Day!!

We will be forced to open late on Thursday morning due to the cold temps.  I'll post on this blog when we get opened up for the day.

April 26th: 4:58 PM

Mama robin has refused to leave her nest for most of the day -- meaning one thing,  it's damn cold out here.  We have closed for the day and will open at 11:00 am on Thursday the 27th.  Check here for updates in the morning and make sure we are open.  Very cold night tonight.

April 26th, 8:55 AM

It is cold and windy today!!!  We do plan to open the gates at 11:00 AM.  If you are traveling through to a doctor's appointment or other trip at an earlier time, give us a call and we'll try to get you in.  We are very careful in this cold, windy weather and work hard to maintain the quality of our product.

April 25: 5:16 PM

With the cold, damp weather we have closed for the evening.  We will open on Wednesday, April 26th at 11:00 am due to the cold weather predicted for morning.

Thanks
Clark and Kelli

Tuesday April 25

10:38 am

It is cool and a little breeze but we are open with normal hours for today.

We are Open Air, wide open, cold when it's cold, wet when it's wet, but usually not windy when windy.  We do have good wind protection.

We encourage all shoppers that will be driving a distance to our nursery to always check this weather blog before you come.  There will be chilly, sub-freezing mornings that we may not open at 9:00 am due to the cold.  If we deem it too risky to uncover the plants we will not.

Always check our weather blog or give us a call to find our our current conditions.  Thank You.  Clark

Shelton is Really, Really, Flat.

A photo from Spring 2016 shows just how flat our nursery is.  After a heavy rain we will have some accumulated water BUT we drain incredibly fast.  After a 2 inch rain it takes about a half hour and all of it is gone.  If it is raining or has rained a lot, always feel free to give us a call and we'll fill you in on conditions.  Also if mornings are near freezing we may not open at 9 am as advertised.  We want to make sure nothing freezes and may not roll covers until later in the morning. Again, feel free to call or check this blog before you drive to Shelton.  We do update our weather blog often and keep it up to date.

What a spectacular evening!

Worked all day today and for 10 hours I listened to the wind snap plastic.  As the sun sets, the wind has faded and the stillness is incredible.
